GET INVOLVED, MAKE AN IMPACT, AND GET PAID!
Get paid to represent the student voice! The Public Service Fellowship (PSF) empowers students to take a seat at the table. Students are compensated $20 per hour to serve on college-wide committees alongside faculty, staff, and administrators.
YOUR VOICE, FUNDED.
It's the law: Students must be provided the opportunity to participate in college governance. Decisions at SRJC are made through "Shared Governance", which is a system where students, faculty, staff, and administrators work together to shape the college. The Student Government Assembly (SGA) created the PSF, to make sure that financial barriers do not prevent students from having a seat at that table.
As a member of a committee, you don’t just observe; you hold an official vote that will help shape the college's future covering all sorts of areas of interest: constructing new buildings, changing college policy, increasing campus safety, adding new scholarships, sustainability initiatives, and more!
THE ROLE
As a Student Representative, you do not just observe; you vote. You will serve on college-wide committees alongside Deans, Vice Presidents, and Faculty, casting votes on critical issues including:
- Campus budget allocations and facility construction.
- Creating new programs, developing curriculum, and academic standards.
- Diversity, equity, and sustainability initiatives.
- Helping to bring student voice and perspective to institutional processes and planning.
THE BENEFITS
Leadership is work, and the PSF compensates you for it. Students receive:
- Compensation: A stipend of $20.00 per hour for all committee work.
- Professional Development: Real-world experience in institutional governance and policy-making.
- Networking: Direct access to college administration and faculty mentorship.
- Involvement: Local research shows that students who participate in student leadership programs are more likely to complete their goals.
HOW TO START
Review the Active Committee Inventory below to find a body that aligns with your academic interests or scheduling availability.
SRJC SHARED GOVERNANCE COMMITTEES
While the SGA has their own internal committee that focuses on their own internal priorities; SRJC's broader operational trajectory is shaped by District-wide Shared Governance committees. These college-wide groups draft institutional policy, review curriculum, and establish campus standards.
By serving on these committees, you fulfill a vital mandate: ensuring the student perspective is actively represented to faculty, staff, and administration before college-wide decisions are finalized.
